HISTORY OF ROBINWOOD ESTATES

(Based on the recollection of a resident since 1980)

Stewart, Teele and Mitchell, the original owners and developers of Robinwood Estates began building houses around 1978.

The first entrance into Robinwood was West Crest, and the first three houses built were the houses on the top of the cul-de-sac, numbers 3, 5 and 7.  When we moved in in December 1980, along with three other families, Robinwood Drive started at West Crest and went back toward Northcrest, only as far as where 15 Robinwood is today.  At this point houses were selling quickly.  By the summer of 1981 Robinwood Drive was extended to Northcrest so we had two entrances.  Phase 2 of houses had also been opened, which encompassed Beech Ridge and a couple houses on Robinwood.   Phase 2 ended  just beyond Beech Ridge.  Phase 3 followed quickly around 1983, which extended Robinwood Drive and added the cul-de-sacs of Wintergreen, Cardinal and Wildwood.  Robinwood Drive terminated just past the intersection with Wildwood.  Around 1987 the next phase was Sandalwood and then Bear Brook, and Robinwood was extended to two houses past the current location of the 3-Way Stop.

The back entrance at Bruno Road was opened but it only led to Sandalwood.   The rest of where Robinwood was to be was a field with a bike/running path down the middle.  At this point in the mid-1990s, Teele, Mitchell (Stewart left in the early to mid 80’s) sold the rest of the land to the Michaels Group, who developed most of the remaining lots and finished Robinwood to connect with Sandalwood and the Bruno Road exit.   The large yellow house at the end of Bear Brook was built by a small local builder himself.  There was a point where there were 4 lots remaining for many years.   Two of those lots on Bear Brook, numbers 8 and 10, were undeveloped and were enjoyed by the kids in the neighborhood as the sledding hill for several years.   The ridge at the top of those two lots, which was configured quite differently then, was home to a family of foxes who were seen one night all sitting watching us walk by.   The four remaining lots were undeveloped for years due to a town building moratorium of single-family homes.  Once that was lifted the lots were sold to different local builders and by 2005 the development of Robinwood Estates was complete.
